Chris's napping schedule has gotten really erratic. Today he napped at 8:30 am and 11 am, and hasn't taken an afternoon nap. In the past he would nap at about 11 and 2. I keep trying to put him down when he seems tired, and he just won't go down! Any advice to help him get on a regular schedule?
If you don't want him to take a nap at 8:30, don't put him down. Even if he's tired. Distract him with another activity or food. He's a bit young still, but he will be transitioning to one nap around the time he's one. Either he got off because of that, or he's just had some rough days. It takes a lot more to get them back on schedule than keep them on it. Good luck! Might be a rough few days, but he'll get back there. :)
ReplyDeleteOh! And DON'T give in to putting him to bed earlier at night because he's tired. That will just throw him off more and make it that much harder to get him back on track.
ReplyDeleteI will try that- keep him up until mid-morning at least. I generally have been just trying to follow his cues rather than follow a schedule, but it can be frustrating when there are multiple unsuccessful nap attempts.
ReplyDeleteYou should read "Healthy sleep habits, Happy Child". It is so good! That doctor suggests only 1-2 hours of wakefulness...but I don't know when that ends. Also, he said a babies natural brain rhythms prompts them to nap around 9am and then 1pm. You could try that. Especially if Chris gets up at 6am, I think it is too long to wait for him to nap until 11am.
