Helga's

Last night we went to Helga's German restaurant with Nate and Angie. We had some traditional German fare and enjoyed a live accordion band.

post-call

I'm post call from the VA. I tend to have some problems with confusion post-call. I got home at about 10:30, immediately went to sleep because I didn't sleep at all last night. Then at 11- something, I woke up in a panic thinking it was the next day and that I overslept! This happens often. It's particularly confusing at about 5pm when it's dim and could be either day or night. Also another random thought. I love how Jack's favorite toy is a hair tie that he has dropped in a shoe. He will pick up the hair tie and move it from room to room, or drop it in a shoe or a sink. He has lots of cat toys, but he chooses to play with hair ties.

jack in the box

I finished the powerpoint that I had to do this weekend. It's adequate. I had today off, thanks to being at the VA. Yeah federal holidays! Doug had to work today. Among other things, I went for a walk around the lake and I bought a vinyl (but not too tacky in my opinion) notepad folder for interviews. Supposedly you should bring copies of your resume to these interviews. However, I was not asked for any copies at any of my residency interviews. I was planning on not bringing a folder. This feline destroyed my leather Michigan folder. But then I realized I need a place to put my directions and schedule. So, I bought the folder. Did you know that real leather padfolios can be really expensive?

maternity suit

Today I bought a ridiculously expensive maternity suit for my interviews. But, I look professional and fabulous in it! Will model once I get the jacket back from the tailor's. Here are photos of the pieces I bought:

21 weeks today. I'm over my cold but my voice still sounds funny. I have my first fellowship interview next Friday here at Colorado, and I'm still figuring out what to wear.

This is the dress that I bought, planning to wear it with my black suit jacket. The blacks don't clash, but the material is different. I am a little iffy about the outfit. I want to feel and look like a million bucks for these interviews. It's easier to act professional when you look professional. I may go suit shopping this weekend.

I'm on call at the VA tonight. I also am getting over a cold. I am stuffy and sneezy. Three overnight calls left during residency, then I am sleeping in my own bed for the rest of the year. I can power through these last three calls. I've powered through so far. More people are noticing that I am pregnant at work. This includes a patient of mine who noticed, and said that pregnancy is a "man trap." Apparently some people have different views about pregnancy.

Everything is going well with the pregnancy so far! The nausea has eased off, and now I'm having more reflux and coughing at night. I have gotten to hear the baby's heartbeat on Doppler on my last two OB visits. We have our ultrasound scheduled for later this month. We're looking forward to seeing the baby. I have felt the baby ping me for the last couple of weeks. I now feel pings at least a few times a day, and they are getting stronger. I feel big and stretched out now, and can't imagine how huge I'm going to be at term.
