Chris smiled at me twice yesterday! He has been smiling intermittently for the last week or so, but I wasn't sure he was actually smiling at me until yesterday. I'm sure it will be a while before we can catch a smile on camera.
Chris had his two month well child visit today. Before the appointment, we visited with Angie and Johnathan. The boys were both somewhat fussy today, and they were fussing at the same time. The doctor visit went well. This time we got an attending rather than a resident. Chris weighs 10 lb 4 oz, is 22 inches, and his head is 16.5 inches. The percentiles more or less stayed the same. His head is still 90th percentile. His weight is 20th percentile, but the doc was not concerned about this. We'll continue to track his growth over time. Chris also received a round of immunizations, which made him cry and then pout.
This weekend we went up to Fort Collins and stayed with Joe and Katie. It was a special occasion- Joe's 30th birthday- and Katie had put together a surprise party for him. He seemed truly surprised. He knew something was up, but he didn't know there was going to be a party. Doug participated in beer pong, which I believe made his weekend. On Sunday, we took a walk in the park and hit some golf balls at the city course's range. The guys also fished in the park, and Doug caught a couple of "pumpkin seeds".
Our lives have changed since we had Chris. I knew it would change in many ways, but I hadn't thought of some of the things I would miss:
1. Backpacking and camping. I love getting away from cities and crowds and getting out into nature. I love the smell of pine needles in the sun, and mountain lakes. I like chopping firewood and having a campfire. Since we have been in Denver, Doug and I have gone backpacking a couple of times a year. Not a whole lot because of my schedule. But now with Chris, we won't be able to camp for a while. I figure he'll be good for camping when he's four. We will be able to go on dayhikes once he can hold his head up and sit in a backpack carrier, however, when he's four months old it will be getting late in the season for hiking this year.
2. Snowboarding. However, my snowboard got stolen the spring before last. I won't miss snowboarding as much as camping.
3. Eating out at nice restaurants. Now we'll be going to places like Red Robin and Chuck E Cheese
This has been a busy week of grandparents visiting. The day after the Brownings left, the Clarks came by for just one night on the way to Rock Springs. Chris is one popular little guy!
Grammy and Grandpa Browning visited us for a few days. They were brave enough to watch Chris for three hours, and Doug and I got out for a movie date. We saw District 9, which we both enjoyed. We are almost completely moved in to the new house. We still have some stuff on the floor in our room- need another bookshelf. The garage still needs organizing, but Doug is on that. Otherwise, things are pretty much moved in, finally!
Today, I had to think for about 20 minutes to come up with the drug name doxazosin. That is the formulary medication for benign prostatic hypertrophy at the VA. I must have prescribed or refilled that medication hundreds of times at my continuity clinic at the VA, and I forgot it. I don't know if that is knowledge rapidly escaping, or mommy brain, or chronic sleep deprivation, or some combination, but it is a little scary how fast I am forgetting things that I knew. I do hope to do some moonlighting later on this year so I actually remember some medicine.
The view from the back yard. The rocks are at Roxborough State park. I went there yesterday in hopes of finding a trail to take the stroller on, but the trails were too bumpy.
So. . . . I have been without internet access for the past two weeks, since we moved in to our house. It was hard at first. I had some internet withdrawal. Did I mention we didn't have TV, either? So just me, the baby, and a bunch of boxes in the house all day. It's hard to move with a young infant. I wouldn't recommend it if you can avoid it! But this was unavoidable, unless we were going to stay at the Breakers, and we just didn't have enough room there. We are all doing well. Chris is getting bigger! When we visited Nate and Angie in the hospital, I took Chris to the nursery and weighed him. He weighed in at 9 lb 0.4 oz! Putting on weight like a champ. Three of these pictures show him sleeping. That is deceptive. That is the easiest time to take a picture of him. He was sleeping for 4-6 hours a night last week, but for the past two nights he has been up all night. I don't know what happened.
Johnathan James Pennock was born on July 25th, Angie's due date! He was 7 lb 15 oz. We visited them the next day. He was a very well behaved little guy, just let everyone hold him and didn't seem to mind all the commotion of visitors.
